Mountain West Utility Trailer is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This position will report directly to the Assistant Controller and collaborate with multiple departments to support daily financial operations and accurate financial reporting. The Staff Accountant will help maintain financial records while contributing to the improvement and documentation of accounting processes, including support of system/process enhancements as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Assistant Controller with month-end close processes, including preparing journal entries and supporting the proper and timely recording of financial transactions in the general ledger.
- Support the daily accounting operations; including the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts; research complex variances and resolve discrepancies as needed.
- Post and apply customer payments (checks, ACH, and credit cards). Respond to customer billing inquiries and resolve discrepancies professionally.
- Maintain current and accurate customer records, including credit terms and contact information.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and documentation of accounting policies and procedures; identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting workflows.
- Perform special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis as requested by management; provide backup support within the accounting team as needed.
- Partner with other departments to gather and clarify financial information, resolve transaction issues, and build strong internal working relationships that support accurate and timely accounting processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of progressive accounting experience required. Public accounting experience preferred.
- 1+ years of general ledger accounting experience; entry level accounting.
- Strong problem solving, process development and process improvement skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
