Job Summary
Maintains and reconciles ledgers and accounts according to generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares and analyzes financial information, prepares reports and financial statements based upon derived statistics and analysis performed.

ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
This position requires the ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles, federal cost accounting regulations and University policies and procedures to a variety of situations. The incumbent must be able to interpret complex policies and effectively communicate the information in an easily understood manner. The incumbent is required to provide analysis of each situation and use professional judgement in reaching a solution.
The Accountant is expected to recommend changes to accounting based procedures based upon analysis performed and specialized knowledge.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Knowledge of People Soft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
