Overview
Thatcher Company is seeking a Purchasing Clerk I to join our Supply Chain team. This entry-level position provides clerical and administrative support to purchasing operations and helps ensure materials and supplies are ordered, tracked, and delivered efficiently. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with data and vendors. This role works under close supervision while gaining experience in procurement and supply chain processes.
Responsibilities- Prepare and process purchase orders (POs) and requisitions as directed
- Maintain purchasing files, vendor lists, and order tracking logs
- Verify pricing, quantities, and product descriptions on purchase orders
- Communicate with suppliers to confirm orders, delivery dates, and order status
- Assist receiving and accounting teams with order discrepancies or invoice issues
- Maintain accurate records in ERP or purchasing systems
- Perform data entry and reporting related to procurement activities
- Follow all company purchasing procedures and safety policies
- Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 0–2 years of related experience preferred
- Significant work experience may be considered in place of formal education
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic understanding of purchasing or inventory processes
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with data
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Ability to follow instructions and manage multiple tasks
- Preferred
- No prior purchasing experience required — on-the-job training will be provided
This position may involve working in both office and operational environments.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment
- Exposure to warehouse and production environments, including noise and chemicals
- Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, and respirators where applicable
