Construction Field Specialist I (Construction Inspector)
HNTB is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Field Specialist I (Construction Inspector) to join our Construction Services Group. This position will support transportation infrastructure projects by performing construction inspection, documentation, and quality assurance activities in the field. The Construction Field Specialist I will work closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure construction activities are completed in accordance with contract documents, project plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
This role requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily construction inspections to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Monitor contractor activities, materials, workmanship, and construction methods.
- Prepare accurate daily reports, field documentation, quantity measurements, and project records.
- Perform or assist with quality assurance testing and documentation.
- Review construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, project engineers, and HNTB project staff.
- Identify potential issues and assist in resolving construction-related concerns.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Support transportation infrastructure projects throughout Utah.
What You'll Need
- Associates degree in Engineering, Construction Services, or related field and 10 years relevant experience, or
- Bachelor's in Engineering, Construction Services, or related field and 8 years of relevant experience, or
- In lieu of degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
The ideal candidate will possess current industry certifications, including:
- UDOT Construction Training Program (CTP) Certification (preferred)
- UDOT/SRDT Certification
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
- UDOT/UAPA Asphalt Inspection Certification
- WAQTC Materials Testing Certification
- ATSSA Traffic Control Technician Certification
- FRA Part 213 and General Track inspections
- FCC inspections
Candidates who do not currently possess UDOT certification may be considered if they have relevant construction inspection experience and can successfully complete the required UDOT certification program within six months of their hire date.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working on UDOT, DOT, or transportation infrastructure projects.
- Experience with rail, runways, roadway, bridge, concrete, asphalt, utility, and earthwork construction.
- Knowledge of construction inspection procedures, materials testing, and quality assurance practices.
- Familiarity with project documentation systems and electronic reporting tools.
