Electrical Estimator

Distinct Lighting & Electrical Services Inc. is a growing electrical contractor with over 19 years of experience built on quality workmanship, strong client relationships, and doing things the right way.

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator to prepare accurate and timely estimates for commercial, residential, multifamily, and service-based electrical projects. This role is important to helping us increase bid volume, improve estimating speed, support profitable projects, and create a clean handoff from estimating to operations.

The right person will be organized, detail-oriented, comfortable using estimating software, and able to manage deadlines without constant follow-up.

This position owns the estimating process from bid review through proposal submission. The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for accurate takeoffs, timely bids, clear scope and exclusion notes, consistent use of estimating software, and strong communication with the office, field, vendors, and project team.

This role also supports project handoff after award by providing labor hours, material budgets, scope details, exclusions, and any potential change order risks.

• Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and addenda.
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs.
• Prepare detailed labor, material, equipment and overhead cost estimates.
• Use estimating software consistently and help maintain estimating templates, assemblies, and cost information.
• Request and review supplier quotes.
• Prepare and submit complete and timely bid proposals.
• Track bid due dates, revisions, and follow-up items.
• Identify project risks, clarifications, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.
• Work with project managers, field leaders, suppliers, and ownership during the estimating process.
• Assist with project handoff after award to help operations understand what was sold.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of electrical estimating experience.
• Experience estimating commercial, residential, multifamily, and service-based electrical work, including remodels, tenant improvements, new construction, repairs, maintenance, and small-project/service calls.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, installation methods, and construction practices.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
• Experience using electrical estimating software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
• Clear communication skills with office, field, vendor, and customer teams.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

• Experience with Accubid, Bluebeam or similar estimating platforms.
• Knowledge of NEC codes and local electrical regulations.
• Electrical field experience, journeyman background, or electrical license/certification.
• Experience building estimating templates, labor units, and cost databases.
• Industrial, healthcare, or education project experience is a plus.
