Big-D Construction is looking for a Preconstruction Manager to join our team of professionals based in Salt Lake City, UT.

Experience/Training:
  • Experience leading preconstruction efforts on commercial construction projects from concept through GMP or bid
  • Strong understanding of estimating, scheduling, and design coordination
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients, design teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to identify, communicate, and mitigate project risks early
Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Lead preconstruction teams, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and project strategy aligned with client goals.
Planning & Execution
  • Plan and manage preconstruction efforts, including team coordination, milestone tracking, and deliverable reviews.
Schedule Management
  • Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring alignment across design, estimating, procurement, and construction milestones.
  • Oversee estimating efforts, ensuring accurate pricing, clear assumptions, and alignment between design, scope, and budget.
  • Review estimates and clarifications to ensure continuity from concept through GMP or bid.
Subcontractor Engagement
  • Support subcontractor engagement, including outreach, prequalification, scope alignment, and bid participation.
Design Management
  • Serve as primary liaison with the design team, guiding design development, cost alignment, and constructability.
  • Identify risks and drive solutions related to design, site conditions, and scope gaps.
  • Act as primary client contact during preconstruction, leading meetings, communicating progress, and building strong relationships.
  • Support business development efforts by articulating project value and strategy to clients.
Contracts & Early Project Coordination
  • Support contract development and ensure preconstruction efforts align with project agreements.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on permitting, utilities, and early project requirements.
  • Lead development and delivery of key preconstruction deliverables, including estimates, schedules, and GMP documents.
Construction Team Integration
  • Collaborate with construction teams to ensure plans are practical, safe, and aligned with project execution.
Team Development
  • Mentor and develop preconstruction and estimating team members.
Project Transition & Support
  • Support project turnover and remain engaged to help resolve risks during construction.

  • Subcontractor engagement is strong and competitive
    The right trade partners are involved early, and scopes are well defined for bidding.

    The construction team receives a complete, coordinated, and well-understood set of documents and assumptions.
