Job Description
Instructor of Theatre, Movement/Dance
Weber State University seeks applicants for the position of Instructor of Theatre, specializing in Movement, Dance, and Choreography for the Theatre Program in the School of Performing Arts. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the needs of a varied student body in the context of a dual-mission public university.

With a curriculum catered to each individual, students develop professional skills that prepare them for careers in the ever-changing world of live performance. Current program-wide practices include: theatrical intimacy training, accessibility through ASL interpretation, and teaching/implementing sustainability practices in class, shop, and production work. We look forward to expanding these efforts and are excited to welcome new people, ideas and experiences into our spaces.
The start date is July 1, 2026
, and classes begin in late August.
NOTE:
Instructor positions are temporary appointments, renewable by separate contract at the sole discretion of the University.
Responsibilities include teaching Movement, Dance, Dance for Musical Theatre, general education courses in theatre, and other courses based on special skills or interests. The candidate is responsible for 12 credit hours per semester, consisting of a combination of coursework, and movement coaching or choreography for main-stage productions as needed. Additional responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to the advancement and growth of the Acting/Directing and Musical Theatre majors.
- Assisting in student recruitment.
- Advising in the selection of the production season.

- General Education Courses
- CA Introduction to Film
- CA Introduction to Theatre
- Courses for Theatre Majors
- Voice & Movement (required for all performance majors)
- Dance for Musical Theatre 1 & 2
- Choreography for Musical Theatre
- Dance classes in the Dance area
- Choreographing 1-2 main stage productions per year
Required Qualifications
- MA or MFA Degree in Theatre, Dance or related field (must be completed by July 1, 2026)
OR
- BS/BA/BFA in Theatre or Dance, plus 10 years or more of professional work in theatre or dance performance/choreography.
- Evidence of successful teaching experience
- Experience as a movement coach and/or choreographer
- Evidence of successful teaching at the university level
- Experience in a nationally certified movement technique (such as Alexander, Laban, Suzuki, or Chekhov)
- Experience choreographing plays and musicals
- Experience in dance techniques such as ballet, jazz, tap, etc.
A successful candidate will be willing to attend a background check as a condition of employment.
