Job Summary

Proofreader – Entry level with strong computer, linguistic, and editing skills. Under the guidance of senior proofreading staff, plans workload to complete projects in multiple English dialects and non‑English languages.

Responsibilities
  • Proofreads and edits English text with an eye for consistency, professional tone, accuracy, structure, and adherence to company style under guidance of senior staff.
  • Proofreads bluelines for printed materials.
  • Ensures consistency by comparison in all languages.
  • Works closely with translation, production, and curriculum teams to resolve questions.
  • Answers technical and stylistic questions and helps maintain the company’s Style Guide and Proofreader Guide.
  • Clarifies meaning of phrases and terms for translation.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in linguistics, writing/editing, or equivalent.
  • Excellent English language skills, including strong verbal and written communication.
  • Familiarity with applying an established style to projects (e.g., the Chicago Manual of Style).
  • Experience proofreading hard copy and electronic formats (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader).
  • Experience proofreading for consistency by comparison in non‑English languages.
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word’s index and table of contents features.
Essential Job Functions
  • Follow checklists and detail‑oriented procedures to ensure product quality.
  • Frequent computer use and sitting for long periods of time.
  • Ability to learn how to use new computer software programs.
  • Concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Extensive verbal and written communication.
  • Frequent collaboration with coworkers.
  • Occasional travel of less than 10% may be required.
