Overview

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Pediatric Gastroenterologist whose primary focus is general pediatric gastroenterology. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a vibrant and collegial academic environment and to work in a children’s hospital ranked as one of the best in the U.S.

The Pediatric Gastroenterologist will be part of a 20‑member clinical team. The physician will provide outpatient and inpatient care for pediatric gastroenterology patients and will also teach pediatric residents and GI fellows. Clinical focus will include general pediatric gastroenterology with outreach at satellite clinics. Although the primary focus is clinical service, there is an expectation for academic work including education, investigation, administration, and advocacy.

Clinical positions without an expectation for academic work are also available.

Clinical Activities

Clinical activities will be carried out at Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH) Miller Campus, a 66‑bed children’s hospital in Lehi, Utah, approximately 20 minutes south of Salt Lake City. Some clinical activities may be carried out at PCH Salt Lake Campus, a 289‑bed children’s hospital. The Division serves the largest geographic catchment area in the United States, with a diverse mix of patients from Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, and New Mexico.

The Division currently consists of 20 physicians, 6 advanced practice providers, 10 registered nurses, and 4 pediatric GI fellows. All pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition clinical services are represented except for small bowel transplantation. The liver transplant program has performed over 300 liver transplants since its inception. The program is one of the only centers in the country with a pediatric ERCP/advanced endoscopy program.

Additional programs include fully equipped and staffed endoscopy suites, a gastrointestinal motility disorders center, a multidisciplinary IBD program, a cystic fibrosis center, a food allergy and eosinophilic disorders clinic, an esophageal and airway treatment center, a feeding and swallowing center, a comprehensive nutrition center, an aerodigestive clinic, a home enteral feeding transitions program, and a multidisciplinary colorectal center.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have successfully completed a Pediatrics Residency and a Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship and must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology. The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure track at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications. Appointment as a Clinical Attending is also available without expectation for academic work, depending on candidate preference.
