Pediatric Cardiologist – Advanced Cardiac Therapies and Transplantation

. The Division of Pediatric Cardiology seeks a Pediatric Cardiologist with expertise in heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and ventricular assist device (VAD) support.

Overview

The Pediatric Cardiologist will join the Utah Cardiomyopathy, Heart Failure and Mechanical Support Program (UCHAMP). UCHAMP, housed under the Section of Advanced Cardiac Therapies and Transplantation, provides care to infants and children with cardiomyopathy and heart failure in Utah and surrounding states. The UCHAMP team includes 5 heart failure/transplant‑trained faculty, 8 advanced practice providers, 4 pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, 4 transplant nurse coordinators, 2 transplant pharmacists, and 2 dedicated social workers.

Clinical duties will be performed at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City and Lehi, Utah, and at outreach sites. In addition to patient care, opportunities and expectations include academic work, quality improvement, and education. A leadership role within a focused sub‑specialty (e.g., VAD, single ventricle care, or anticoagulation) may be considered with dedicated leadership time.

Established in 1991, the heart failure and transplant program performs approximately 15 transplants and 15 VADs per year, with outcomes exceeding national benchmarks for wait‑list and post‑transplant care.

Salt Lake City is a rapidly growing, vibrant city with a nationally recognized Broadway theater, ballet, symphony, professional sports teams, and abundant outdoor activities. It offers ski resorts, national parks, golf courses, hiking and biking trails, lakes, and extensive recreational opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized inpatient and outpatient care to children with cardiomyopathy, heart failure due to cardiomyopathy or congenital heart disease, and patients pre‑ and post‑ heart transplantation.
  • Collaborate with the UCHAMP team to develop and implement care plans across multiple sites.
  • Engage in academic activities, including quality improvement and education of trainees and staff.
  • Consider leadership roles within a focused sub‑specialty program with dedicated time for leadership responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Focused training and expertise in Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy, and Transplant.
  • A fourth year of additional training in Pediatric Heart Failure required.
  • Faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure Track at an academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
