The University of Utah Department of Psychiatry, in partnership with the Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI), seeks faculty Inpatient Community Psychiatrists to join the Kem and Carolyn Gardner Mental Health Crisis Care Center (MHCCC). This 82,000‑square‑foot center will open in early 2025 and will feature a 23‑hour receiving center, a 24‑bed inpatient unit, and dedicated floors for case management, legal aid, and addiction treatment.
Six full‑time faculty psychiatrists will guide multidisciplinary teams in a cross‑continuum practice model, with a key academic role in educating and supervising psychiatric residents.
- Active or eligible to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the State of Utah.
- Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry; board certification is required for retention.
- Completion of a residency in Psychiatry.
- Strong desire or experience in crisis, emergency, or adult psychiatry; additional training in community, crisis/ED, or addiction psychiatry is desirable.
- Provide psychiatric inpatient care, crisis intervention, assessment, and management of severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI).
- Offer care for acutely suicidal patients and supervise medical detoxification.
- Dedicate ~75% of the effort to inpatient care; 25% to receiving center and on‑site outpatient services.
- Participate in a rotational schedule (≈4 weeks on, 2 weeks off) with call and cross‑coverage responsibilities.
- Engage in scholarly activities, including research, presentations, and publications.
- Serve as a mentor and teacher for residents, medical students, physician assistant students, and fellows.
- Perform administrative duties and committee service as requested by the Division Chief of Adult Psychiatry.
