The University of Utah seeks an exceptional general (non‑invasive) cardiology leader to serve as the Section Chief for the General Cardiology Section within the Cardiovascular Medicine Division in the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine (DOIM). This is a remarkable opportunity for a dynamic academic leader to further the growth and innovation of this vibrant program’s clinical, research, educational, and other programmatic missions.
The General Cardiology Section is the largest of the five sections within the Cardiovascular Medicine Division. Faculty and advanced practice clinicians cover the entire spectrum of non‑invasive cardiovascular diseases and provide outpatient and inpatient services at multiple locations, including the University of Utah Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and community clinics throughout the Intermountain West. The Division performs over 33,000 imaging procedures per year and sees more than 45,000 patients in ambulatory clinics.
The Division is highly invested in clinical and translational research, integrating research interests such as Cardio‑Oncology, Lipidology, Pulmonary Hypertension, Sports Cardiology, Advanced Cardiac Imaging, Artificial Intelligence, Medical Device Development, and Preventive Cardiology. Extensive basic and data‑science programs exist, and clinical trials are supported through a central Clinical Trial Unit staffed by research coordinators, biostatisticians, and a senior research manager.
The Division also is committed to education, providing training for up to 21 general cardiology fellows through an accredited CVD Fellowship Program, and up to 10 cardiovascular sub‑specialty fellows across disciplines. It supports PhD and MD/PhD students and offers Physician‑Scientist Training and advanced research training programs.
The Section Chief will work closely with the Cardiovascular Medicine Chief and departmental leaders to promote a collaborative environment that enhances clinical growth and academic development, and advances research aligned with the Division, Department, and Institutional missions.
Competitive candidates will have a track record of accomplishment as an academic cardiologist, evidenced by practice excellence, original contributions to research, national and international visibility, a history of extramural research funding, and progressive leadership and administrative experience.

ABIM Board certification in cardiology, board eligibility in echocardiography and nuclear medicine, and eligibility for a Utah medical license.
Preferred QualificationsAcademic experience as an Associate Professor or Professor; national or international research reputation, clinical leadership, and progressive administrative experience.
