The Department of Surgery, Division of Transplant Surgery at the University of Utah is actively recruiting qualified applicants for the position of Multiorgan Abdominal Transplant Surgeon. The Division of Transplant Surgery is one of nine divisions within the Department of Surgery. The division is a highly cohesive faculty of abdominal transplant surgeons and advanced practice clinicians dedicated to high‑quality, value‑driven patient care, education, and innovation through basic science, clinical, and health‑services research.
The faculty also play a key role in caring for patients with benign and malignant hepatic and biliary disease in conjunction with the University of Utah/Huntsman Cancer Institute, an NCI‑designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Candidates will have a commitment to excellence in all three traditional academic missions of clinical practice, education, and research. They must work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, lead by example, and collaborate across departments such as Internal Medicine, Radiology, Anesthesia, and others involved in abdominal transplantation and advanced hepatobiliary disease. The selected candidate will be a strategic partner promoting a culture of institutional stewardship throughout the University of Utah Health Care system.
Requirements- Recognized academic transplant surgeon qualified for, or at the rank of, Assistant Professor, who has completed an ASTS‑certified multi-organ abdominal fellowship.
- Clinical expertise in living and deceased donor kidney and liver transplant; deceased donor procurement experience preferred.
- Strong experience influencing and motivating the transplant team, supporting a culture of collaboration, quality, and efficiency.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering the growth of others through a collaborative mindset, effective communication, and good listening skills that build trust and guidance.
- Strong commitment to educational excellence and advancement of faculty, trainees, students, and advanced practice clinicians (APCs).
Prospective candidates must have an MD degree, be Board Certified in General Surgery, and have completed an ASTS‑certified fellowship in abdominal solid organ transplantation.
