Overview

Under general supervision the adjunct welding instructor will teach and facilitate student learning in a competency‑based welding program, preparing students for industrial employment and certifications as required.

Position Details

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

Responsibilities
  • 1) Provide instruction and facilitate students’ learning in Oxy‑acetylene welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux‑cored arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and blueprint reading (including welding symbols leading to industry certifications and employment).
  • 2) Accommodate various learning styles, especially hands‑on training, not limited to the classroom.
  • 3) Advise students on the program requirements and their progress through the courses. Assess student’s abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback.
  • 4) Collaborate with other instructor(s) in the department to aid in development and coordination of quality classroom activities and curriculum as required.
  • 5) Provide an industry viewpoint to the training program so that students will be prepared to enter the work force.
  • 6) Keep current on technological advances in welding.
  • 7) Support college and SLTC policies and guidelines.
  • 8) Must have good work ethic, punctuality, and attendance habits.
  • 9) Become familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
  • 10) Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • 11) Provide appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
  • 12) Return graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
  • 13) Maintain student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
  • 14) Conduct a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Inform students of progress to date periodically and assign and submit grades by published deadlines.
  • 15) Assist in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
  • 16) Follow and abide by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
  • 17) Handle/respond to student concerns/complaints and respond to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1‑2 days).
  • 18) Maintain professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
  • 19) Complete all required employee trainings.
  • 20) Know and enforce FERPA guidelines.
  • 21) Administer ADA accommodations as needed.
  • 22) Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • 23) Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • 24) Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1) Six (6) years full‑time paid, non‑teaching work experience as a journeyman or equivalent level as a welder. May include a maximum of 1 year welding training other than "on‑the‑job‑training" (documentation required) OR
  • 2) Associate Degree in related field with 3 years experience in the industry and 4 years welding experience.
  • 3) Must be a current member of the American Welding Society in good standing.
  • 4) Must be able to read and interpret welding blueprints and know the AWS system of welding symbols.
  • 5) Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following welding processes:
    Oxy‑Acetylene Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Cored Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.
