Job DescriptionThe Church History Library is seeking a candidate for a one-year, part-time (28 hours/week) paid internship opportunity working with Records Management processing archivists in arranging, describing, and preparing records related to the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints and its members globally.
Responsibilities- Process archival records in physical and/or electronic formats
- Process archival collections using MARC and DACS standards
- Create registers using the EAD register and rendering tool
- Assist in preparing paper and electronic records for digital preservation
- Assist in workflow management of corporate records from acquisitions to processing to digitization and storage
- Review and edit cataloging work from others
- Directed reading
- Church history
- Professional literature related to archives and manuscripts
- Practicum
- Shadow staff members from the Records Management processing team
- Develop expertise with the cataloging system to capture descriptive metadata, adhering to internal and national standards
- Work with and assist in the training of volunteers and missionaries
- Participate in discussions regarding cultural competency and equity
- Required:
- Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation.
- They must sign a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.
- The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in history or allied field
- Understanding of archival theory and practices
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Highly detail‑oriented with excellent writing and editing skills
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work both individually and in a team environment
- Respect for confidentiality
- A respect for diversity in the workplace
- A commitment to educate oneself about the cultures and traditions of communities outside one’s own to support a global institution
- Preference will be given to candidates who also possess these additional qualities:
- Experience conducting research and/or working in an archive, including arranging and describing archival collections
- Knowledge of the historiography and sources of Church history
- Understanding of Church history in a global context
- Fluent in a language other than English (verbal, written, or visual)
- Master’s in archival administration, library science, or history (earned or in process)
