Position Summary
Rowland Hall seeks a dynamic, flexible, and collaborative teacher for 2 sections of upper school Spanish I. This is a part-time position, .4 FTE (of 1.0). Working closely with other upper school world languages teachers is a key aspect of the role to ensure a smooth transition between levels, as well as curricular continuity. Assisting with grade-level experiential learning opportunities and serving as an upper school advisor are optional for part-time employees, and earn an additional stipend.
Primary Responsibilities
- Fluency in Spanish, along with classroom experience and a background working with high school-age students is preferred. The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and an interest in engaging in the school community beyond the classroom while advocating for students, supporting parents, and collaborating with faculty and staff. Applicants should demonstrate collaboration, self-reflection, cultural competency, and curiosity.
In addition: - Teach relevant content, skills, and practices to students in the upper school, primarily in grade 9
- Collaborate and innovate with colleagues
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom and other work areas
- Evaluate and communicate student progress
- Communicate with students, families, and other faculty proactively
- Create and sustain a positive learning environment
- Be able to utilize technology, with experience preferred in Veracross, Canvas, and Google applications
- Participate in other events, meetings, and duties as assigned by administration
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required;
Master’s degree plus teaching experience is preferred. - Strong references that attest to teaching ability/potential, connection with students, and language fluency.
- Travel, living, or study abroad experience in a Spanish-speaking country with strong knowledge of these cultures a plus
- Proven written and verbal proficiency in Spanish
- Demonstrated cultural competency and a commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Flexible thinker eager to learn new concepts, ideas, and evidence-based practices alongside colleagues
- Ability and interest in working with students at different grade and skill levels.
- Desire to support and promote the mission and values of the school
