Position Summary

The Elementary PE Instructor will supervise and teach elementary students, ensuring compliance with program requirements, assisting with parent education programs, and coordinating communications with parents.

Starting Wage: $22.00 hourly;

• Fingerprinting and successful criminal background check.
• High school diploma or a recognized equivalent; must be Highly Qualified under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and have completed one of the following:
  • At least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours).
  • Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher.
• Provide official transcripts, college diploma, or a copy of the Paraprofessional Assessment with application or upon a contingent offer; unofficial transcripts may be placeholders until official documents are provided.
• Hold or obtain CPR/First Aid Certificate within six months of hire.
• Knowledge of classroom‑management skills necessary to effectively monitor and supervise elementary students; operate standard office equipment including phone, copier, Microsoft Office, and Power School.
• Consistently maintain composure and patience in challenging situations.
• Effective communication skills with children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuation.

• Experience in a K‑12 special education or public employment environment.
• Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand.

• Instruct students in the development of physical skills and abilities (e.g., motor skills, exercises) to meet the State Core Physical Education curriculum requirements; operate physical education equipment and playground activities using standardized methods.
• Monitor individual students in a variety of settings (classroom, playground) to provide a safe and positive learning environment, adhering to safety practices.
• Implement students’ learning and behavior plans to meet social, behavioral, and health‑care interventions; ensure compliance with IEPs and provide for individual needs (assistive devices, supportive technology, facility access).
• Prepare teaching materials and related reports; document student progress (attendance, anecdotal records) and implement lesson plans; apply assessment instruments.
• Perform record‑keeping and clerical functions (scheduling, copying, data recording) to support the administrator.
• Assess student learning, participation, and skills to provide quality, age‑appropriate instruction.
• Manage student behavior and conflict; report incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, neglect, suspected substance abuse) to ensure compliance with school, state, and federal policies.
• Supervise academic enrichment activities (class activities, field trips, visitor presentations) guiding students in learning from these enhancements.
• Collaborate with school personnel and parents to improve student outcomes, develop solutions, plan curriculum, convey progress information, and encourage parental involvement.
• Utilize resources from other work units to meet student needs.
• Assist other personnel as required (instructors, site administration, paraprofessionals) to create an efficient work environment.
• Independently interpret guidelines; communicate orally and in writing; communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; set priorities; work as part of a team; adapt to changing priorities; be attentive to detail; analyze issues and create action plans.
