Career Coach I Job Summary

The University of Utah seeks a motivated and student-centered Career Coach I to educate, guide, and prepare students for the transition from academic study to meaningful employment or advanced education. This position provides foundational career coaching services including individual appointments, workshop facilitation, and career education programming. The Career Coach I supports students in exploring career pathways, developing professional skills, and navigating the job and internship search process.

Responsibilities

Provide individual career coaching appointments focused on career exploration, job search strategy, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, and professional skill building.

Guide students through self-assessments, career research, and decision-making processes.

Design and deliver workshops and presentations on career readiness topics.

Assist students in identifying experiential learning opportunities such as internships, research, and campus employment.

Maintain accurate appointment notes and utilize career services technologies and data systems.

Provide proactive outreach to students throughout their time at the University of Utah with additional focus nearing graduation to provide support in the transition from college to career, and in gathering student internship and job placement outcomes.

Support outreach initiatives to increase student engagement in career development programming.

Collaborate with colleagues across campus to support student success.

Participate in professional development activities to strengthen coaching effectiveness and industry knowledge.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or equivalency.
Minimum of 3-5 years of professional work experience in roles/industries that are relevant for college graduates.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above.

Preferences

Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
Experience in career advising, academic advising, workforce development, or student services.
Knowledge of career development theory and job search strategies.
Experience presenting workshops or facilitating group instruction.
Familiarity with CRM systems and career services platforms.
