Position: Youth Mentor (Sugar House)

Title: Youth Development Professional (YDP)

Reports to: Club Director

Salary Range: $15 -$17 DOE

Hours: 25 hours/week, e very day Monday-Friday 1:30-6:30pm

JOB SUMMARY:

Youth Development Professionals (YDP) facilitate fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities for youth or teens from diverse backgrounds. Using our three priority outcomes - academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles - as a guide, Youth Development Professionals run programs, offer support, and ensure that every Club Member has an Optimal Club Experience that sets them up for lifelong success.

Successful YDPs have a passion for serving others and contributing to the well-being of the community th Development Professionals have the ability to connect with young people and offer supportive relationships. They are team players willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that Club Members are safe, recognized, and given the opportunity to learn new skills.

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Plan and implement daily group activities with youth ages 5-12 or 13-18
  • Transport youth in Club vehicles (school pick-ups, field trips, etc.)
  • Ensure engagement and promote consistent attendance of youth enrolled in activities
  • Establish rapport with youth and provide mentoring, guidance, and role modeling to support their leadership development, artistic skills, physical activity engagement, and academic progress
  • Provide active supervision, continually interacting with all members
  • Submit regular lesson plans, attendance sheets, and other paperwork responsibilities
  • Plan special events, such as guest speakers, performances, or field trips
  • Abide by and carry out safety policies and procedures
  • Attend local trainings

Needed Knowledge:

  • Ability to work in high-energy, loud, and active settings with large groups of diverse youth or teens
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, ensure safety, and accomplish tasks in a detailed, timely manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with Club Members, peers, parents, community leaders, etc.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and comfortable with both independent and collaborative processes
  • Strong group management skills, willing to learn and implement trauma-informed practices
  • Willingness to learn and exemplify social and emotional learning competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, MVR check, and drug screening.
  • 21 years and over (to meet driving requirements), and be willing and able to drive 15-passenger vans
