The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at the rank of Assistant Professor. Exceptional candidates at a higher rank, Associate or Full Professor level, will also be considered. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2027.

We seek applicants with outstanding research accomplishments and the potential to develop an internationally recognized research program in theoretical condensed matter physics, and to strengthen undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose research expands the department’s condensed matter program through (i) computational studies of quantum many-body systems and quantum materials that combine advanced numerics with analytical insight, and/or (ii) condensed matter physics at the interface with quantum information science or advanced machine learning. We welcome candidates who will enrich our active and intellectually diverse condensed matter group and participate in interdisciplinary research initiatives in quantum science.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field. The application must include a cover letter summarizing the applicant’s interest in the position; a curriculum vitae; a statement of research interests and plans; a statement of teaching philosophy; and at least three letters of recommendation.

For full consideration, complete applications must be received by December 1, 2026.
