JOB SUMMARY
The Paraprofessional I (Early Childhood/Preschool) assists assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of students, performing classroom tasks, in support of the instructional process.
MinimumRequired Qualifications
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Per Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), interested applicants must be Highly Qualified to be considered for the position and have completed one of the following:
- completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours), or
- obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution, or
- satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
- The higher education institution official transcripts, or college diploma, or a copy of the Paraprofessional Assessment must be provided with your application or upon a contingent offer of employment. Unofficial transcripts can be a placeholder until official transcripts are provided
- Hold or obtain CPR, First Aid, and Utah Food Handler Certificates within 30 days of employment
- Attend Annual Health Services Training
- Knowledgeable of age‑appropriate activities, stages of child development, Individual Education Plans (IEP) and concepts of learning
- Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing
These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.
- Experience in an Early Childhood setting, K-12 education, or public employment environment
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
- Implement, under the supervision of assigned teacher, interventions (e.g., booster groups, individual instruction, small group instruction, etc.), lesson plans, and age‑appropriate hands‑on learning activities to reinforce learning concepts and improve students' learning and academic success
- Fulfill students' learning and behavior plans to meet students' social and behavioral interventions, health care plans, and ensure compliance with IEPs
- Provide for the individual needs of students (e.g., assistive devices, supportive technology, assistance accessing facilities, etc.) to ensure access to a quality educational program
- Monitor individual students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, library, playground activities, field trip, bus boarding and exiting, etc.) providing a safe and positive learning environment
- Assist teachers in evaluating student progress and implementing student objectives
- Prepare teaching materials, perform record‑keeping and clerical functions, and organize related reports (e.g., worksheets, scheduling, copying, data recording, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to implement lesson plans and document student progress to support the teacher and administrator
