Typical hours: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday–Thursday; 12:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Fridays.

JOB SUMMARY

The After School Group Leader works with students in after‑school programs, supervising, supporting, mentoring, monitoring, and ensuring that the district's after‑school programs are implemented in a service‑oriented, safe, fair, and equitable manner.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Utah Department of Health Food Handler’s Permit or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Hold or obtain CPR/First Aid Certificate.
  • Attend Annual Health Services Training.
  • Experience providing age‑appropriate activities, safety practices and procedures, and understanding of the stages of child development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data‑based software.
  • Speak, read, write, and present professionally; analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, scanner, fax machines).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • College level coursework.
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office Suite skills.
  • Experience with community programs, child development, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and concepts of learning.
  • Experience in a community program environment supporting multiple programs and services.
  • Spanish or other language proficiency (ability to read, write, speak, and understand).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist students in their growth through educational, social enrichment, and recreational activities.
  • Receive and release students directly from and to parent or designee to ensure safety and meet district requirements.
  • Under limited supervision, plan, organize, and facilitate age‑appropriate activities for recess, indoor, outdoor, quiet, and active programs.
  • Communicate and supervise students in a positive and patient manner, being understanding of child development stages.
  • Provide homework assistance to students in academic areas (e.g., reading, language, math) and promote good study habits.
  • Supervise students in free time and academic settings (e.g., recess, study tables, field trips, special activities) to encourage and ensure a safe and positive educational environment.
  • Prepare and maintain food for students in accordance with Department of Health standards.
  • Clean work areas (e.g., gym, computer lab, classrooms) to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Support site coordinator with projects, lesson planning, etc., to implement site goals. Perform confidential and non‑confidential record‑keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to ensure necessary records maintenance for the program as needed.
  • Administer first aid/CPR to students when necessary.
  • Work with students who may have significant behavior or personal healthcare needs, which include feeding, toileting, etc. Training will be provided.
  • Provide support in helping students get safely on and off the bus for field trips.
  • Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain the personal safety of students and adhere to safety practices.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned by the site coordinator to meet goals and objectives.
  • Participate in trainings to gain information, build skills and ensure quality student programs.
  • Foster a team‑oriented atmosphere by working closely with own team and other departments to efficiently fulfill program responsibilities.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
