Paraprofessional I

The Paraprofessional I assists assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of students in general education classrooms. Working alongside the classroom teacher ensuring students stay engaged and on task, reinforcing lesson plans, providing clerical support, supporting students' academic growth and overall development.

We are seeking a dependable, caring, and collaborative paraprofessional who enjoys working with elementary-aged students and contributing to a positive school community. The successful candidate will work closely with classroom teachers and other school personnel to provide academic assistance, small-group support, student supervision, and positive behavior support throughout the school day.

Minimum

Required Qualifications

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  • High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
  • Per Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), interested applicants must be Highly Qualified to be considered for the position and have completed one of the following:
    • completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours), or
    • obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution, or
    • satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
  • Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
  • Attend Annual Health Services Training
  • Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuation
  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
  • Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, scanner, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environment
  • Knowledgeable of age-appropriate activities; stages of child development; classroom management techniques; and development of effective lesson plans; lead small groups and learn through play
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
  • Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher and provide a method to support and reinforce lesson plans
  • Administer tests and evaluations, proctor tests, under supervision of the teacher (e.g., DRA, DIBELS, observational data for IEP goals, etc.) to monitor student progress
  • Confers with teacher assisting in evaluating student progress and implementing student objectives
  • Implement students' learning and behavior plans to meet students' social and behavioral interventions, health care plans, and ensure compliance with IEPs
  • Monitor individual students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, library, playground activities, field trip, bus boarding and exiting, etc.) providing a safe and positive learning environment
  • Provide appropriate classroom intervention with students under the teacher's direction (e.g., booster groups, individual instruction, small group instruction, etc.) improving student learning and academic success
  • Prepare teaching materials, perform record-keeping and clerical functions, and organize related reports (e.g., worksheets, scheduling, copying, data recording, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to implement lesson plans and document student progress to support the teacher and administrator
  • Administer first aid/CPR to students when necessary and adhere to safety practices
  • Perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages and rations, read a variety of manuals, and write documents following prescribed formats
  • Assist other school personnel as required and needed (e.g., instructors, site administration, other paraprofessionals, etc.) ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
  • Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain the personal safety of students and adhere to district policies, procedures and state law
  • Participate in various meetings and workshops as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform functions; present information to others; attend additional training opportunities as needed
