The Paraprofessional II
- Special Education works with students in small groups on specific subjects and leads lesson plans. This position supports teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of special education students in resource classrooms including assisting students with special health care needs and developing students' daily living and behavioral skills while promoting a welcoming and positive learning environment where all students can thrive.
To be successful in this role, the incumbent must demonstrate patience and the ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
High school diploma or a recognized equivalentPer Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), interested applicants must be Highly Qualified to be considered for the position and have completed one of the following:- completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours), or
- obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution, or
- satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hireComplete Safety Care TrainingAttend Annual Health Services TrainingEffective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuationAbility to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratiosExperience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, fax, etc.) and Microsoft OfficePreferred Qualifications:

Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environmentSpanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understandEssential Functions & Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the teacher, assist and supervise students as they attend general education classes and provide support according to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) needs; utilize knowledge of student's IEP and concepts for Special Education learning to implement learning and behavior plans that meet students' social and behavioral interventions, health care plans, and ensure compliance with IEPsWork with students who may have mild to moderate behavioral and special health care needs. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 poundsUnder the guidance of the teacher, use knowledge of age-appropriate activities and stages of child development to implement classroom management techniques, provide small group instruction to students within the classroom, and provide classroom interventions and a variety of activities (e.g., constructive play, behavior modification activities, etc.), while managing time effectivelyAdminister assessment instruments under the direction of teachers; confer with teachers to assist in evaluating student progress and implement student objectivesCollect student data as related to EIP, FBA/BIP or as directed by teacherMonitor individual or small groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, library, playground activities, bus boarding and exiting, etc.).
