Position

Summary

This position entails leading and directing Rowland Hall’s Upper School Choirs. Choir is open to any student with a love of singing. In rehearsals and in preparation for a variety of community performances, singers will develop healthy vocal technique, strong notational skills, and ensemble responsiveness under the direction of the Choir teacher. Repertoire, selected by the choir teacher, should range from classical choral music to contemporary a cappella, in a variety of styles.

Performances over the course of the school year may include music department concerts, assemblies, collaborative visual arts concerts, regional festivals and competitions, and other opportunities in the local community.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the Upper School choir, centering the student experience and facilitating deep learning within the arts department.
  • Prepare for and direct 8‑10 outside‑of‑school performances annually, including school events as well as regional and state competitions.
  • Meaningfully collaborate with other performing arts faculty in both the Middle School and Upper School.
  • Evaluate and communicate student progress.
  • Communicate proactively with students, families, and other faculty.
  • Create and sustain a positive learning environment.
  • Utilize technology, with experience preferred in Veracross, Canvas, and Google applications.
  • Participate in other events, meetings, and duties as assigned by the administration.
Skills and Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree and music classroom experience working with adolescents are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate focuses on learning and the well‑being of students and has excellent interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and a commitment to reflecting on their practices and continuously improving them. Strong candidates will also show interest in engaging with the school community while advocating for students, supporting parents, and collaborating with faculty and staff.

  • Has the experience, ability, and interest to work with Middle School and Upper School students.
  • Is a flexible thinker who is eager to learn and experiment with new concepts, ideas, and evidence‑based practices.
  • Demonstrates cultural competence and a commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Has a strength in differentiating curriculum based on individual students’ strengths and areas for growth.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a learning management system, web‑based applications, and other online resources.
Additional Information

This is a part‑time (.2 FTE), non‑benefit eligible, exempt position, reporting to the Head of Upper School. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026. The schedule would be 7:30‑8:10am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with other performances as scheduled.
