Librarian, Affordable Learning & Liaison

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Library Academic Services, the Affordable Learning and Liaison Librarian partners with faculty and staff to advance affordable learning through open educational resources (OER), Library-licensed content, course reserves, and openly available resources. As a member of the Open Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) cross-institutional team, the Librarian contributes to affordable learning and open education initiatives and connects faculty and staff with copyright and licensing expertise as needed.

Serving as liaison to an assigned SLCC school, the Librarian builds collaborative relationships with faculty and academic leaders; provides information literacy instruction, research consultations, reference services, and outreach; and develops collections and Library services that support student and faculty success.

• Partner with faculty, staff, and academic leaders to advance affordable learning through OER, library-licensed resources, course reserves, and openly available content.
• Collaborate with the Open SLCC cross-institutional team, the Copyright Librarian, and other colleagues to support open education, copyright and licensing referrals, and affordable-learning initiatives.
• Serve as liaison to an assigned SLCC school, building relationships with faculty and academic leaders and connecting programs with relevant Library resources and services.
• Provide information literacy instruction, research consultations, reference services, and outreach for students, faculty, staff, and administrators in a variety of formats.
• Participate in developing collections and in planning and assessing liaison, instruction, collection, and affordable-learning activities.

• Demonstrated interest in, or ability to develop knowledge of, affordable learning, OER, open education, open access, scholarly communication, copyright, fair use, intellectual property, and open licensing.
• Ability to learn and apply technologies, tools, workflows, and platforms that support OER discovery, adoption, adaptation, creation, and assessment.
• Ability to apply information-literacy concepts and instructional practices, including the College’s General Education information literacy learning outcome and the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
• Ability to communicate clearly and build inclusive, equitable, accessible, and welcoming relationships and services for students, faculty, staff, and administrators with diverse backgrounds, identities, abilities, and educational experiences.

Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution or an international equivalent recognized by ALA; degree completed by date of hire.

• Demonstrated interest in affordable learning, OER, open education, or scholarly communication, including through coursework, internships, practicums, student employment, volunteer work, or professional experience.
• Familiarity with copyright, fair use, intellectual property, Creative Commons licenses, and/or copyright-permissions or course-material licensing and permissions processes, including Copyright Clearance Center tools.
• Experience in an academic, community college, public, school, or special library setting, or another education- or student-focused environment.
