Youth and Family Programs Assistant Manager Job Summary

The Natural History Museum of Utah's Youth and Family Programs Assistant Manager supports the development, delivery, and growth ofthe Museum's youth and family programming, including summer camps,workshops, classes, family programs, and other STEAM-based learning experiences. Working closely with the Youth and Family Programs Manager, this position provides day-to-day leadership, operational oversight, and programmatic support for programs serving K–8thgrade youth and their families.

The Assistant Manager plays a key role in curriculum development,program planning and implementation, staff development, scheduling,behavior management, and the development of systems that support effective program delivery. The position helps lead and support aseasonal and part-time team of up to 35 staff members, including scheduling, training, coaching, communication, and day-to-day operational support.

This position contributes to high-quality support, and participant-centered learning experiences that promote inquiry,creativity, teamwork, resiliency, independence, and growth. The Assistant Manager teaches programs as needed, supports staff and participants during program delivery, troubleshoots challenges, and collaborates with Museum departments and community partners. Theideal candidate is organized, adaptable, self-directed, and collaborative, with experience developing STEAM-based curriculum,leading educational programs in informal settings, experience supporting or supervising staff, and working with youth and families.

Strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making,and behavior-management skills are essential.

• Develop, implement, evaluate, and improve K-8th grade STEAM-based curriculum and programs.
• Support the integration ofsocial-emotional learning practices into programming and staff development.
• Assist the Manager with scheduling, training, coaching,communication, and operational support for up to 35 seasonal andpart-time staff.
• Handle communication to program participants and families and provide high-quality customer service.
• Support recruiting, hiring, and onboarding part-time staff.
• Stepping in to fill shifts necessary for daily function of programs.
• Assisting with planning and staffing large scale events.
• Support day-to-day program operations, including program delivery, database management, payment processing, troubleshooting,behavior management, and participant needs.
• Assist Manager with developing and maintaining systems,procedures, workflows, and staffing structures that support program quality and efficiency.
• Collaborate with Museum departments and community partners todevelop and deliver programs.
• Support summer camp operations and other major Youth and Familyinitiatives.
• Help foster a culture of teamwork, resiliency, curiosity, and participant-centered learning.
• Identify challenges and develop practical solutions that support program growth, quality, consistency, and sustainability.
