Commercial Generator Technician – Salt Lake City, UT (SLC) (Field‑Based Role)

If you are a highly skilled Commercial Generator Technician in the power generation industry with excellent mechanical and electrical capabilities, Pearce Services wants to hear from you. We’re seeking an individual with hands‑on experience servicing diesel and/or natural gas generators, as well as automatic transfer switches (ATS), across various power systems, including equipment manufactured by Caterpillar (CAT), Cummins, Generac, and Kohler.

This position supports field‑based work in the greater Salt Lake City, UT (SLC) area, servicing customer sites across the region. It’s a great match for independent, self‑motivated technicians who enjoy variety, road travel, and working directly with clients in the telecom and commercial sectors.

Core Responsibilities
  • Travel to customer sites and perform scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of diesel and natural gas generators.
  • Accurately troubleshoot and diagnose power generation equipment, including Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and generator controls, AC, and DC issues.
  • Travel to customer sites within the required response time to perform, diagnose, and repair emergency maintenance on generator equipment.
  • Complete required documentation in a timely and accurate manner using the company computer system(s), and properly assess & report the urgency of all needed repairs.
  • Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Conduct performance checks and regular maintenance on generators to ensure proper readiness, reading and following blueprints or other design specifications to install or repair.
  • Install fuel and water supply lines, pumps, electrical wiring and controls, and other components, and test for proper operation.
  • Respond promptly to Power/Generator alarms; have the ability to be on call 24/7 if necessary and respond promptly to assigned phone and email.
  • Perform work with an awareness of all potential hazards associated with installation and maintenance of power supply equipment, switching gear, and other equipment, including falls, electric shock, falling objects, and traffic; use safety equipment and participate in all designated safety and training meetings.
Core Experience

  • Two or more years of experience with generator maintenance, specifically for units of 500 kW and above, with a preference for 3,000 kW or higher.
  • Minimum of two years of intense work‑related experience with generator and electrical maintenance‑related software, hardware, and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of generator installations, maintenance, and repair of generators; knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components; moderate computer skills.
  • Basic knowledge of pertinent FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations.
  • Must have electrical and mechanical aptitude related to diesel and/or natural gas engines, generators, and automatic transfer switches.
  • Previous experience working with power generation equipment such as diesel generators and gaseous generators (CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, etc.).
