Position Summary
Red Cat is seeking a Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) Flight Instructor to join our team to design and deliver training programs, conduct product demonstrations, and ensure continuous improvement in training methodologies while adhering to strict safety protocols, with a remote work structure requiring 65% travel.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Operate sUAS in the field and ensure all flight and ground operations follow established procedures. Provide demonstrations and represent the company at trade shows.
- Deliver sUAS training courses (theory and practical) to ensure comprehensive understanding and skill development in all aspects of sUAS operations.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the sUAS training curriculum to ensure high standards of training delivery and operational excellence.
- Coordinate and actively participate in ground and flight operations, including mission planning, execution, briefing, debriefing, aircrew resource management, and safety oversight.
- Test and evaluate new sUAS systems to ensure they meet performance standards and operational requirements, providing feedback for continuous improvement and integration into training programs.
- Prepare and brief Mission Packets, reviewing weather, NOTAMS, and SPINS for conflicts, while understanding and integrating sUAS operations within the local Airspace Control Plan (ACP).
- Work remotely while performing extensive travel to locations both within and outside the US, demonstrating trustworthiness and reliability in managing tasks independently.
- Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever business is conducted on behalf of the Company, working in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Ensure compliance with service guidance, company policy and procedures and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Possess a current FAA Part 107 license.
- Associate’s degree in Aviation, Business, or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience operating, maintaining, and integrating sUAS in tactical, commercial, or research applications.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in sUAS flight training, instructing both novice and advanced operators, and developing training curricula.
- Minimum of 3 years leading a team or unit conducting special operations integrated with sUAS operations.
- Former Special Operations operator with 5+ years of experience in an elite military unit (e.g., Army Special Forces, Rangers, Air Force Special Tactics, Navy SEALs, Marine Reconnaissance).
- Candidate must be available to work overtime and may be required to work short‑term and long‑term projects away from home.
- Demonstrated team player with eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship and a current passport.
- Minimum of 4–8 years of military experience or equivalent aerospace training.
- Outstanding leadership, managerial, and organizational skills with excellent presentation and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Solid understanding of military tactics, operations, GPS, and navigation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Strong experience as a military instructor or Special Operations.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle objects of varying sizes.
- Prior hobby experience with FPV drones or RC aircraft helpful but not required.
- Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs on a regular basis.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks, in accordance with safety protocols and company policy.
- May be required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch during inspections, maintenance walk‑throughs, or emergency response situations.
