Tetra Tech invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity as a Civil / Water Resources Engineer. We are seeking a Mid to Project Level Civil / Water Resources Engineer with expertise in hydrological and hydraulic modeling and developing water resource-related engineering designs. The role includes proposal preparation, project management, water resource modeling and designs, reporting, and moving projects to completion. The Civil / Water Resources Engineer will manage projects commensurate with their training and experience, with access to Tetra Tech’s project management training program.

Collecting field data, modeling water resources, and designing solutions are key components. The successful candidate will work across natural and anthropologic-impacted systems in diverse market sectors. The position requires developing water resource designs that promote resiliency of infrastructure and watersheds to changing climatic conditions and leveraging our global resource base for scientifically advanced assessment, planning, and design tools and services.

The position offers a flexible hybrid work setting and schedule to be worked out with your supervisor, with the candidate residing within 50 miles of the Salt Lake City, UT or Henderson, NV offices.

Essential Job Functions

We are seeking an energetic individual to pursue and support various challenging projects. The successful candidate will take on varying levels of responsibility on projects ranging from field investigations, modeling evaluations, design, and report preparation. The Civil / Water Resources Engineer may lead as a Project Manager on hydrological and hydraulic modeling projects and related civil design tasks. Market sectors may include state and Federal funded watershed resiliency and impact mitigation, military facilities, mining, oil and natural gas, commercial development, environmental cleanup, and industrial projects.

Key tasks include:

  • Site reconnaissance and on-site evaluation of governmental, commercial, and industrial sites.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater conveyance and retention/detention design, stage-storage and water balance modeling, open channel flow, erosion, and sediment control.
  • Engineering design development.
  • Preparation of reports and technical memorandums.
  • Development of engineering cost estimates.
  • Development of bid specifications and contract documents.
  • Construction oversight.
  • Environmental data compilation, review, and evaluation.
  • Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Travel may be required (approximately 25%), typically related to construction oversight, field investigation, and site reconnaissance.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering with a water resource focus or related field.
  • 5–10 years of civil engineering work experience; advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
  • Related education and interests in storm water management, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, BMP design, channel stabilization, cost estimation, environmental regulations, remediation, water balance modelling, heavy earthwork construction, nutrient/metals loading, and water quality.
  • Experience in civil engineering, hydrologic modeling, hydraulic analysis, and grading and drainage.
  • Strong skills with computer systems and Microsoft software (MS Excel) for data analysis.
