Overview
Position Title:
Airport Network Systems Engineer II
Job Description:
Under the guidance of the Network Engineering Team Manager, or a Network Systems Engineer III, oversees all activities of the Salt Lake City Airport data and communications networks. Responsible for performing professional Network Systems Engineering assignments, including analyzing local and wide area network systems, planning, designing, evaluating and selecting operating systems and protocol suites, and configuring communication media. Resolves interoperability problems to obtain operations across all platforms including;
E-mail, File Transfers, Network Infrastructure, Unified Communications and High-Speed Wireless. Configures systems to meet the needs of the user environments. Supports acquisition of hardware and software as well as vendor services as needed. Conducts assignments of considerable complexity pertaining to the evaluation and development of network systems applications. Responsible to mentor and train incumbents in other positions such as Network Systems Engineer I, Network Support Administrator and Technical Systems Analyst.

The Airport Network Systems Engineer II plays a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining Salt Lake City International Airport’s complex enterprise network infrastructure, supporting mission-critical systems such as wireless networks, security platforms, cloud integrations, unified communications, and core network services. This position combines advanced technical expertise with strategic problem-solving, collaboration across IT and vendor partners, and mentorship of junior team members to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing network operations that power day-to-day airport operations.

Position Salary Range:
$98,327 to $122,909 annually based on qualifications and experience.

Participates in planning, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining complex solutions for the SLC Airport’s network.
Interfaces with 3rd party vendor support for installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of 3rd party applications and utilities; develops strategies and processes for interfacing with outside entities.
Supports mission-critical services (e.g., File Storage, Active Directory, VMware, Cloud Integration, Gateways, Print Servers, Backup Servers, Anti-Virus, Camera System, Card Access System, Building Automation System, VoIP, DHCP, DNS, and Network/Internet access).
Manages network hardware and software in an enterprise environment.
Working knowledge of HP/Aruba, Cisco, and Transition routers and switches.
Experience in enterprise Wireless Systems (e.g., Cisco, Aruba).
Troubleshoots and resolves network security issues; ensures employees can access necessary data while protecting that data from intruders.
Provides guidance and training to incumbents in other positions (Network Systems Engineer I, Network Support Administrator, Technical Systems Analyst).
Collaborates with Software Engineering Team, Business Analysts, and Software Support Team on system implementations and upgrades.
Designs, configures and maintains software updates; helps implement PMP/PTP wireless networks.
Implements, configures and maintains network security devices (Firewalls such as Cisco ASA/Firepower, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.), Spam Filters, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and Remote Access Services.
