Systems Engineer
Job Description
An employer is seeking a Systems Engineer with a focus on Free‑Space Optical (FSO) Communications to support the full lifecycle development of advanced optical communication systems, from conceptual design through product phase‑out. In this role, you will work in a fast‑paced, deliverable‑driven environment with a strong emphasis on system integration, verification, and test (I&T) across optical, RF, and hybrid communication architectures.
You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional engineering teams, vendors, and end customers to manage requirements, develop technical documentation, and resolve technical challenges associated with line‑of‑sight, high‑bandwidth optical communication systems.
The position includes hands‑on involvement in integrating optical communication subsystems, aligning and validating free‑space optical links, executing test procedures, and troubleshooting system‑level performance issues in both lab and field environments. You will support end‑to‑end system verification, environmental and performance testing, and integration events, ensuring reliability across atmospheric conditions, platform motion, and multi‑domain communication interfaces. Additional responsibilities include participation in design reviews, coordination with subcontractors, and support for on‑site integration and test activities, with travel expected.
This role requires an active DoD security clearance and is ideal for a systems engineer with experience in free‑space optics, optical communications, or advanced sensor/communications systems, along with a strong understanding of systems engineering fundamentals, requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama), and the ability to deliver high‑performance communication solutions in complex operational environments.
This role is offering $85-100/hr.
