Position Overview
The Salt Lake City Operating Control Center (ROCC) is seeking a DG (Distributed Generation) Control Room Operator to monitor a large renewable asset DG portfolio across U.S. regions, primarily California and the Northeast. The portfolio largely consists of PV sites and a few Solar + Battery installations. The role is performed under limited supervision from a Control Room Team Lead and involves remote monitoring of sites in various states from Salt Lake City, UT.
Standard 8‑hour shifts occur Monday‑Friday, with weekend support as needed.
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of DG‑scale solar assets.
- Monitor portfolio via SCADA for faults, errors, alarms, and underperformance; notify/dispatch appropriate parties if faults cannot be reset or cleared.
- Communicate with and dispatch field O&M personnel for troubleshooting site equipment.
- Coordinate outage support and energy isolation with field O&M personnel.
- Interact frequently with cross‑functional AES teams and external organizations.
- Create and track corrective maintenance tickets in AES’ work management system (CMMS).
- Contribute to the development of operating procedures incorporating all requirements from PPAs, IAs, and relevant Functional Entities.
- Assist in onboarding and integration of new generation assets.
- Participate in safety activities, including weather monitoring and routine & emergency response communications.
- Interact with customers and Performance Engineers on asset performance and reliability issues.
- Record information such as fault time, fault code, and operational actions taken while on shift.
- Maintain logbooks in compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Skills and Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience in control center operations, preferably in the power or renewable industry.
- 2+ years in the Power Generation (or similar) industry (Power Plant or Renewable Operations, I&C, Field Maintenance, Electrician, Power Plant operations, or Military Operations).
- Familiarity with electrical substation safety protocol, equipment, and operations.
- Competency in plant processes, electrical and SCADA systems.
- Strict adherence to operating procedures.
- Familiarity with the maintenance and operations of solar and Battery Energy Storage generation assets.
- Clear and effective communication skills for managing critical situations.
- Willingness to undergo regular training to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations.
- Reliability, punctuality, and integrity while unsupervised.
- Ability to thrive within a small, agile and fast‑growing team.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams).
- Ability to work effectively under pressure with multiple priorities.
- Experience with documentation control systems:
SharePoint, Docushare, SAP, etc. - Experience creating, editing, and documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ability to make independent decisions, adapt to responsibility, and follow direct instructions.
- Experience with data acquisition and SCADA is a plus.
- Familiarity with LOTO practices, Electric Switchgear switching, and Electrical Isolations preferred.
- Good safety awareness & practices.
