Job Description & How to Apply Below

Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 545,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called Giga One.
Our mission is to build the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure — built to unite people and communities through resilient, secure, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid.

Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.

Torus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.

At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.

About

the Role

The Environmental Engineer will lead environmental compliance and permitting for Torus’s expanding manufacturing operations and field services organization. This role supports the introduction of new equipment and processes at our manufacturing facilities and ensures environmental compliance across the full project lifecycle in the field — construction, installation, commissioning, and ongoing monitoring of energy storage systems — in multiple states. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-moving environment, can translate complex regulatory requirements into practical solutions, and partners effectively with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and external regulators.

Who

You Are
  • An Advisor of Accountability:
You hold a high bar for environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance. You don't just point out violations; you actively provide the tools, calendars, and clear metrics that help manufacturing and field teams own their environmental performance throughout the product and project lifecycle.
  • A Collaborative Multi-State Partner:
You are a proactive, highly collaborative teammate who thrives when working across functions. Whether you are on the manufacturing floor in Salt Lake City or traveling to an active construction site in another state, you excel at translating complex, jurisdiction-specific regulations into practical, common-sense solutions for engineering, project managers, and contractors.
  • A Clear, Fact-Based Thinker:
You approach compliance with analytical rigor, utilizing data, emission inventories, and structured calculations to drive decisions. When working through ambiguous local codes or changing agency requirements, you seek context before making assumptions, giving prompt and transparent feedback to project teams.
  • A Pragmatic Problem-Solver:
You approach fast-moving startup hurdles with cautious optimism. Instead of serving as a "bureaucratic bottleneck," you utilize your technical engineering background to anticipate bottlenecks early, helping the company scale rapidly while rigidly protecting the air, land, and water of the communities we serve.
  • Mission-Driven with a Sustainability Mindset:
You are deeply motivated by the opportunity to build clean, resilient energy infrastructure that lasts. You take immense pride in ensuring that the processes used to build and deploy our systems are just as sustainable as the energy products themselves.
