Sr. Bridge CAD Technician

Overview

Senior Bridge CAD Technician for HNTB’s Salt Lake City office, responsible for producing high‑quality structural drawings for infrastructure projects. Works closely with structural engineers and project managers to develop construction documents, ensure drafting accuracy, maintain CAD standards, and mentor junior CAD staff.

• Verify the accuracy of drawings and cross‑disciplinary compatibility, and check detail and quantity calculations.
• Calculate design data, prepare layouts, detailed specifications, estimates, and reports.
• Assist in preparing engineering studies and evaluations for projects from concept to design stage.
• Attend project and pre‑construction meetings and provide input to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed.
• Resolve technical design problems, including field investigations, inspections, detailed design work, and data analysis.
• Perform general administrative assistance by maintaining complex project plans.
• Develop documentation, prepare project‑management reports, and monitor accomplishments relative to targeted goals.
• Recommend process improvements for project delivery at the office level.
• Calculate quantities and perform engineering‑related computations.
• Recruit, hire, develop, and retain staff; oversee staff reporting, performance, compensation reviews, and succession planning.
• Coordinate schedules and approve timecards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or related field with at least 6 years of relevant experience, OR
• Associate of Science in Drafting/Technical School with at least 8 years of relevant experience, OR
• 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of education.

• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with structural designers and project teams.
• Proficiency in Bentley Bridge Software (Micro Station, Open Bridge Designer, Project Wise) and Bluebeam.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of terminology and symbols in survey notes, plans, shop drawings, aerial photographs, and maps for the relevant engineering subtype.

• Lead bridge layout, detailing, and plan production using Micro Station and/or Open Bridge Designer.
• Familiarity with Utah DOT standards, levels, cells, workspace configuration, and seed files.
• Experience working with InRoads geometry, surfaces, and alignments for coordination with bridge and structural plans.
