Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Quality Engineer - Failure Analysis located in Salt Lake City, UT.

In this role, the potential candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining cost‑effective methods of troubleshooting systems, software, and/or equipment. The candidate will implement solutions on critical items to propose to customers, and maintain the failure inventories of the repair or manufacturing process.

The candidate will also keep and increase technical knowledge and work with the education department to plan training for technical people, ensuring flexibility between projects or technologies to maintain technician efficiency and effectiveness.

What a typical day looks like:

• Directs and/or coordinates technical personnel in the design of methods of failure analysis.
• Directs activities concerning the development, procurement, installation, and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices for debugging.
• Directs and coordinates strategies to debug failure product of the test process.
• Determines conditions and procedures under which debugging is conducted and defines indicators and phases of the debugging process.
• Interfaces with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing and troubleshooting problems such as product failures, system malfunctions, incomplete test data, failure analysis reports, new solutions, obsolete component data interpretation, or coding issues.
• Analyzes and interprets failure data and prepares technical reports for use by electronic or software engineering and management personnel.
• Develops or uses computer software and hardware to conduct tests on electronic products and systems or software.
• Trains and instructs floor support, debug technicians, and test operators on test hardware and/or software, failure solutions, and proper problem‑solving techniques.
• Resolves test yield problems by performing root‑cause analysis, developing and coordinating corrective action measures, and monitoring improvements.
• Analyzes circuits and topologies to identify marginal issues or compatibility issues between components.
• Performs yield trend and Pareto analysis to identify epidemic failures that require deeper analysis.
• Develops and monitors efficacy and efficiency metrics to improve diagnostic processes.
• Provides technical documentation and tools for diagnostic purposes.
• Specialized job responsibilities may be required for certain positions and could include one or more of the following duties:

• Develops and/or supports diagnostic tests at the card edge level.
• Supports improvements to functional test hardware.
• Develops test plans and procedures.
• Coordinates third‑party development of functional test development and enhancements.

• Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Typically requires 6 years of experience in engineering in the electricals or related field.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Typically requires skill in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and an overview of the entire test process and the ability to train others.
