Harris Broadband Communication Systems (BCS) in Salt Lake City, Utah is seeking an experienced EMI/EMC engineer to provide design support and testing of our state‑of‑the‑art products including modems, power supplies, antennas, and communication systems for military branches in support of our warfighter.
- Create an EMI Control Plan, Test Plan, Test Procedure, Test Report and other applicable documents.
- Perform required pre‑test setup and calibration measurements prior to testing.
- Perform design and test activities to achieve EMI compliance.
- Experience with TILE! or similar EMI test software.
- Support system and sub‑system development efforts and design reviews, including sub‑system partitioning, packaging, cable design, grounding and isolation requirements, CCA layout recommendations, schematic development, grounding maps, trade studies, analysis and simulation activities related to EMI.
- Apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, test, and evaluate L3H programs for Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3).
- Participate in the proposal process for programs with EMI/EMC requirements.
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance; preferable holds a current clearance.
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate Degree and minimum 4 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum 10 years of prior related experience.
- Strong focus on designing for and testing to MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑464 and RTCA/DO‑160 specifications.
- Working knowledge of electromagnetic theory, radiated and conducted emissions, signal and power coupling effects, susceptibility of systems, EMI, EMC, E3, Lightning effects, EMP and HEMP.
- Experience with common lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, receivers, signal generators, RF amplifiers, antennas, and EMI current probes.
- Experience with EMI/EMC design techniques for wide‑band, high‑isolation performance, signal containment, source suppression and RF grounding for PCBs, sub‑assemblies and system‑level hardware for hand‑held, aircraft, ground, and shipboard systems.
- Experience with EMC simulation software tools such as SPICE, Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS and IBIS model development tools.
- Knowledge of Commercial (FCC, CE‑Mark, RTCA DO‑160) and Military (UK DEF‑STAN 59‑41) specifications and related qualification testing is beneficial but not required.
- INARTE certification is a plus.
