Piping/Mechanical Fabrication Drafter
Prepare simple to intermediate-level piping/mechanical fabrication drawings and/or civil site and grading plans, pipeline alignment, and profile drawings for the construction of gas distribution pipeline projects (e.g., gate stations, meter and regulator stations, as well as related pipeline appurtenances). Coordinate assigned projects, prepare project drawing reviews, and provide ongoing status reports. Assist internal and external customers by providing drawings and other required pipe information and data.
Provide facility data research required for modifying existing facilities. Provide gas facility and mapping information to engineering, construction, and other company personnel. Provide gas facility information to external customers, including engineering firms, Blue Stakes, government agencies, etc. Work under the direction of the supervisor and other designers to carry out design/drafting assignments with initiative and independent judgment. Perform other duties as assigned.
May involve overtime, weekend, and/or holiday work to ensure project completion. Require prolonged use of computer-aided design and drafting tools (keyboard). Travel to company facilities for field trips, including some overnight stays. Work outdoors for extended periods in inclement weather conditions (hot/cold, dry/wet). Require the ability to walk on steep and/or ungraded surfaces.
Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programs. Reading and understanding facility drawings and alignment sheets. Standard practices and terminology. Property rights-of-way, surveying principles, and basic mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Demonstrated SkillsAutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D, Vehicle Tracking, Autodesk Vault, Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel), Adobe Acrobat Pro, and CADWorx P& (preferred).
Ability toRead and understand distribution pipeline facility drawings and alignment sheets. Demonstrate entry-level knowledge of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and their use within construction drawing packages. Read and interpret preliminary and post-construction as-built notes (field notes), survey field notes, and survey book information. Understand and follow written and verbal instructions. See objects at close range; determine the distance and relationship between objects;
distinguish between colours and intensity; and hear and respond to telephone and equipment. Be mobile and possess manual dexterity. Work independently with minimal supervision. Maintain effective verbal and written communication. Demonstrate attention to detail in design drawings and related information. Contribute to a positive work environment by being courteous to co-workers and customers, following directions from supervisors and Lead CAD Designers, and refraining from abusive or profane language and behaviour in the workplace.
Associate degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting from an accredited institution, or equivalent professional experience, with 0–2+ years of professional experience. Maintain regular attendance and work an approved schedule. Demonstrate proficiency in entry-level design and drafting while meeting reasonable project completion deadlines. Hold a valid driver's licence and maintain an acceptable driving record. Adhere to all company policies, including the Business Ethics and Compliance Policy, and comply with all applicable industry regulations, including FERC and DOT requirements.
