Our client is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead the planning, analysis, design, and implementation of complex electrical power systems supporting mission-critical facilities, industrial infrastructure, utility-scale projects, and large commercial developments.

This role focuses on medium- and high-voltage power distribution, power generation systems, substations, protection and controls, utility interconnections, and advanced power system studies.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with experience supporting data centers, substations, power generation facilities, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other critical infrastructure projects. This individual will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams while providing technical leadership throughout all phases of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities Power Generation & Critical Infrastructure
  • Design electrical infrastructure supporting mission-critical and industrial facilities.
  • Develop medium- and high-voltage power generation systems utilizing gas turbines, reciprocating engines, fuel cells, renewable resources, and hybrid generation technologies.
  • Design and coordinate battery energy storage systems (BESS), including large utility-scale applications.
  • Develop generator paralleling systems, synchronization schemes, and associated controls.
  • Design medium-voltage UPS systems and DC power distribution systems.
  • Support highly reliable power architectures for continuous-operation facilities.
Power Distribution Design
  • Design low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Prepare one-line diagrams, grounding plans, equipment layouts, cable routing plans, and construction drawings.
  • Specify and coordinate:
    • Switchgear
    • Switchboards
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • Transformers
    • Generators
    • UPS systems
    • Protective relays
    • DC power equipment
  • Perform electrical calculations and equipment sizing in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards.
Protection & Controls
  • Develop protection and control philosophies for electrical power systems.
  • Design relay protection schemes and coordination studies.
  • Prepare AC/DC control schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Support generator control system design and integration.
  • Coordinate PLC, automation, and SCADA interfaces.
  • Participate in commissioning and startup activities.

Perform engineering analyses including:

  • Arc Flash Analysis
  • Load Flow Studies
  • Voltage Drop Analysis
  • Harmonic Analysis
  • Dynamic Modeling
  • Power Quality Assessments

Experience utilizing tools such as:

  • ETAP
  • SKM
  • Easy Power
  • CYME
Substation & Utility Interface
  • Design medium- and high-voltage substations.
  • Support utility interconnection projects.
  • Coordinate with utility providers regarding protection, controls, and operational requirements.
  • Develop grounding systems and utility coordination packages.
  • Prepare supporting technical studies and documentation.
  • Lead electrical engineering projects from planning through construction.
  • Prepare reports, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Conduct site investigations and existing system evaluations.
  • Provide construction-phase support, including:
    • RFIs
    • Submittal reviews
    • Site observations
    • Commissioning support
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and client requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of engineering quality, documentation, and QA/QC procedures.
Preferred Project Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Generator paralleling systems
  • Gas turbine power plants
  • Fuel cell installations
  • Microgrids
  • Substations
  • Industrial manufacturing facilities
  • Water and wastewater infrastructure
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10+ years of electrical power system design experience.
  • Strong background in:
    • Medium-voltage distribution systems
    • Protection & Controls
    • Power system modeling and studies
    • Utility coordination
    • Switchgear and electrical equipment
    • Power generation systems
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with:

  • Large substations
  • Generator control systems
  • SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, or similar relay platforms
  • SCADA systems
  • PLC integration
  • Proposal development and client-facing work
