Varex Imaging Position

Supports engineering and production activities such as design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype and production linear accelerator systems and related electronics or test equipment. Applications may include high energy sources for security and inspection products. Works from schematics, diagrams, work instructions, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions. Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.

Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. May assist in the design, construction, test and checkout of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

Job Description

The core duties of this position are as follows:

  • Test and troubleshooting assemblies and/or final systems.
  • Setup, calibration, testing and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Determination and development of test specifications, methods and procedures from blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Completing rework on assemblies and/or systems to support testing.
  • Preparing technical reports summarizing findings and recommending solutions to technical challenges.
  • Assisting in the selection and setup of specialized test equipment.
  • Availability for frequent travel to other sites to perform above responsibilities.

Skills, Knowledge, Training and Certifications

  • Obtain and complete Varex qualified person (QP) electrical safety training.
  • Familiar with business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, block diagrams and work instructions.
  • Experience at troubleshooting electronic and RF circuitry utilizing tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum and network analyzers, and power meters is desired.
  • Experience with design and build of prototype electromechanical systems and test boxes is a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of digital and analog circuity are desired.
  • Knowledge and understanding of AC and DC circuits is desired.
  • Knowledge and understanding of high voltage power and safety is highly desired.
  • Knowledge and understanding of RF theory is a big plus.
  • Familiarity with 3-phase primary power is a plus.
  • Familiarity with radiation safety is a big plus.
  • Familiarity with high-energy x-ray sources is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ion chambers and radiation measurement techniques is a big plus.
  • Familiarity with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with compressed gas or refrigerant systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with water cooling systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with PLCs is a plus.
  • Strong lab book documentation habits are desired.
  • Skilled in the use of basic hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, drills, hammers, and soldering irons.
  • Clear data communication and presentation skills utilizing programs such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint Outlook, and Word are desired.
  • Ability to regularly bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May work with material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, overhead cranes, and forklifts to move and secure heavy assemblies.

Job Complexity

  • Some work may be routine, and some may be one off, generally requiring good judgment to avoid hazards and equipment damage. Has a limited role in decision making.

Supervision

  • Instructions and supervision should be expected initially. Training will be accomplished in pairs due to associated testing hazards. Ability to work independently desired.

Typical Education and Experience

  • Associate or bachelor degree in related field strongly desired.
  • 3+ years of related experience desired.
  • Any level LINAC service technicians are invited to apply.
  • US Citizen’s or green card holders strongly desired.

Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Initially, availability for frequent travel will be required. Frequency of travel may change over time.
