Statewide Pavement Engineer
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a forward-thinking professional to work within the Central Materials and Pavements Group. As the State Pavement Engineer, you will provide technical support to internal and external pavement design and pavement management customers; and serve as an expert in pavement design and preservation and rehabilitation treatment selection. You will have the opportunity to represent the department in national pavement groups to assist in finding and implementing improvements to our policies and processes.

- Provide leadership, technical guidance, and direction in setting statewide pavement design, preservation, and rehabilitation policies.
- Lead the Department into innovation strategies in pavement design.
- Maintain and update the department pavement treatment selection process.
- Review and approve Region pavement project treatment selection.
- Evaluate up front and treatment life cycle cost.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance in pavement data collection and project smoothness requirements.
- Maintain all pavement related department standard specifications and drawings.
- Provide input and recommendations through the Department that affect the sustainability and performance of Utah’s pavement infrastructure.
- Manage the Departments Dielectric Profiling System (DPS) program.
- Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Utah. (
Note:
Out-of-state licensees must obtain reciprocity with Utah prior to their official start date.) - Four (4) years of engineering experience post-licensure.
- Curiosity and passion about building, preserving, and maintaining pavements.
- The ability to take initiative on self-prioritized tasks with little to no direct supervision.
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and organization skills.
- Strong understanding of the pavement design, materials, and construction.
- Strong understanding of asset management and pavement preservation strategy.
- Strong background in pavements and managing a pavement program.
