Job Summary

Provides excellent customer service to the University of Utah community and visitors by ensuring parking accommodations are monitored and patrolled on a regular basis for parking infractions in order to keep parking areas accessible to authorized permit holders and special-use patrons.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol parking lots and check for proper permits, issuing citations for improper parking.
  • Assist in providing motorist services to the University community and public, such as starting cars, directing people to available parking and specific buildings.
  • Assist visitors and registered users in understanding parking regulations and availability across campus.
  • Process copies of issued citations and complete related forms at shift end.
  • Direct traffic in parking lots during special events (football, basketball, entertainment, theatrical productions, University-wide events such as commencement).
  • Impound vehicles parked in tow-away zones or those with excessive citations per departmental procedures.
  • Testify in court regarding contested citations as requested by the Attorney General’s office.
  • Set up, take down, maintain, and inventory all equipment needed for special event parking.
  • Collect revenue from day‑pass machines and meters.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on parking lot equipment and order new equipment as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of related parking enforcement experience (or equivalent).
  • A valid Utah Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to pass a background review.
Preferences
  • Computer experience, including word processing and spreadsheet skills (a plus).
  • Ability to evaluate and resolve parking issues and payment options for customers’ impounded vehicles.
  • Good judgment and honesty required for collecting payments for unpaid tickets in the field.
  • Ability to handle high‑stress and crisis situations with a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Legal operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to ride a mountain bike.
