The Plant Controller is responsible for leading all financial operations of the manufacturing facility, including cost accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, inventory management, and internal controls. This role partners closely with plant leadership to drive operational efficiency, improve profitability, and ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
The Plant Controller serves as a strategic business partner to the Plant Manager, providing financial insight to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all plant-level financial activities including cost accounting, inventory valuation, and month-end close processes
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and performance reports
- Partner with operations to monitor KPIs including labor efficiency, scrap, yield, and overhead absorption
- Lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for the plant
- Analyze manufacturing variances (labor, material, overhead) and provide actionable recommendations
- Ensure accuracy of standard costs and maintain BOMs and routings within ERP systems
- Manage inventory controls, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes
- Drive working capital improvements, including inventory optimization
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with corporate policies and audit requirements
- Support capital expenditure analysis, ROI modeling, and post-investment reviews
- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cost structure and operational performance
- Supervise plant accounting staff, if applicable
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including manufacturing cost accounting
- Prior experience in a plant or manufacturing environment strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, inventory controls, and ERP systems
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
