Unemployment Insurance (UI) Contributions Unit - Field Auditor I

The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking a skilled and motivated individual for the Field Auditor I position across Utah. Employees in this role will be part of a Field Audit team, guided by a UI Field Audit Supervisor. Due to the compliance nature of this role, auditors may encounter confrontational situations during their work.

Principle Duties
  • Audit employer records and investigate employer/worker relationships to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws, UI rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Manage audit and investigation caseloads in a timely manner.
  • Maintain work quality to meet all Tax Performance System (TPS) standards.
  • Stay updated on current UI laws, rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Math skills equivalent to one year of college coursework involving calculations and working with numbers.
    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to handle difficult situations and conversations, including de-escalating disputes with business owners, accountants, and attorneys.
    • Experience analyzing financial records and data.
    • Ability to interpret and retain complex laws, rules, regulations, and procedures.
    • Decision-making skills based on facts, laws, and rules.
    • Clear and concise writing skills to convey complex analysis understandably.
    • Willingness to stay informed and improve skills continually.
    • Self-motivation with the ability to prioritize and complete assignments within time constraints.
    • Willingness and ability to travel within Utah to designated locations.
