The purpose of this position is to professional accounting work including compilation, consolidation and analysis of financial data. Requires an understanding of accounting fundamentals and principles and bookkeeping experience. May include any or all of the following: ledgers and preparation of journal entries, fixed asset or inventory accounting, preparation of trial balance or financial statements, cost accounting, bank account reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities- Track progress against budgets within established finance systems and report variances to more senior colleagues.
- Assist with the development and delivery of financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
- Apply appropriate accounting standards to accurately record financial transactions and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
- Perform month end activities within the receivables process; calculate non-complex provisions using appropriate methods; identify risks of bad debts.
- Perform month end activities within the payables process.
- Perform inventory and fixed assets activities accurately.
- Perform month-end close activities and provide accurate and timely financial submissions.
- Understand the different components and interdependencies of the organization’s chart of accounts.
- Understand and describe the main elements of financial statements and reports.
- Understand general compliance requirements and provide accurate and timely financial submissions.
- Produce accurate reports for others by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats.
- Help others get the most out of data management systems by providing support and advice.
- Extract and combine data to generate standard reports.
- Prepare moderately complex documents using a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Office. Also responsible for gathering and summarizing data for reports.
- Reconcile sub-ledgers to general ledger and perform other related account reconciliations; evaluate accounts for legitimacy and balance substantiation.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of techniques used to analyze and manage costs.
- Contribute to business planning, budgeting and expenditure forecasting processes.
- Apply basic modelling, forecasting and planning techniques to develop cost forecasts with cost drivers identified and explained.
- Understand and apply basic concepts of cost accounting to support entities’ operational and financial requirements.
- Demonstrate knowledge to effectively identify and update product costs as necessary.
- Regularly challenges peers or superiors when the situation arises. Discusses the consequences of unacceptable behavior and offers alternative solutions.
