Position: Director of Place Based Investments
  • Oversee place-based investments across Intermountain Health's service areas
  • Report to the VP of Community Health with a dotted line to the Chief Investment Officer
  • Engage with community leaders, Intermountain Health executives, borrowers, applicants, and external organizations
  • Manage Intermountain Health's place-based investment program and provide strategic direction with System Treasury, Legal, Philanthropy, Community Health, and Finance
  • Design and implement a place-based investment program addressing social determinants contributing to poor health
  • Develop a strategic framework aligned with Community Health Needs Assessments, system priorities, and health-improvement KPIs
  • Monitor industry best practices and innovations in place-based investing
  • Develop strategies and tools to assess investment risk and return
  • Activate community health teams and geographic leaders to source opportunities
  • Maintain compliance with legal, tax, accounting, investment, and regulatory requirements and protect allocated assets
  • Develop communication and educational materials with marketing or communications
  • Establish partnerships with funding and investing organizations within service areas and nationally
  • Increase management and board knowledge of place-based investment initiatives
  • Build an investment sourcing pipeline identifying investments with financial returns and social determinant of health impact
  • Build and maintain a network of local investing partners, including financial institutions and CDFIs, and manage the application process
  • Coordinate investment fund requests and applications from external organizations
  • Review proposals and credit memos and oversee due diligence
  • Develop new investment strategies and policy initiatives
  • Serve as staff liaison and support governance activities and approvals
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, finance, or accounting required
  • Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution; education is verified
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of financial and communication skills, partnership development, and working successfully with community-based organizations
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and financial skills
  • Ability to work closely with diverse internal and external constituents to foster partnerships and achieve program goals within a large, diverse organization
  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to providing high-quality services
  • Strategic thinking skills with ability to consider long-term goals and assess options and implications
  • Five years prior experience in a leadership role within a matrixed organization, with frequent interactions with senior leaders and community health improvement
  • Prior leadership experience in banking and/or finance
  • Ability to mobilize diverse groups with varied interests toward specific organizational goals
  • Demonstrated experience leading a portfolio dedicated to impact investing with successful return rates
  • Experience in and knowledge of investment strategies
  • Ten years of experience in place-based investment work (preferred qualifications)
  • Ability to see and read information, documents, and monitors and assess customer needs
  • Ability to verbally communicate and hear and understand spoken information quickly and accurately

    Manual dexterity for manipulating complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use
  • Ability to drive a vehicle for roles requiring driving
