Job Summary

Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah seeks a skilled and dynamic Program(s) Manager to join the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement. The successful candidate will assist with planning, implementation, and evaluation of Huntsman Cancer Institute’s community outreach and engagement efforts, specifically working with American Indian residents in rural, frontier, urban, and Tribal areas throughout the Mountain West – a region that includes Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.

With supervision, the manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, evaluating, and managing all aspects pertaining to multiple program functions of the American Indian Program within the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, including collaboration with team members, community leaders, community organizations, clinicians, and researchers.

As an integrated staff member, the manager will work to improve knowledge and health behaviors through risk reduction and screening interventions, prevention education, promotion of clinical trials, and engagement in research, among others. The manager will center Tribal sovereignty and employ a culturally grounded approach, centering Native traditions, values, language, and communities.

Occasional evening and weekend hours as well as frequent regional travel. This requires flexibility and ability to drive one’s own vehicle and University vehicles. Daily tasks can be done in a hybrid working environment, with a mix of in-person commitments, regional travel, and tasks that can be completed virtually.

Responsibilities

Management and Strategic Planning

Key responsibilities include prioritizing leadership tasks, particularly those related to administrative duties, development of direct reports, and oversight and stewardship of strategic initiatives.

  • Build and maintain academic, clinical, and Native-serving community partnerships to enable access to and delivery of culturally appropriate, evidence-based cancer information and education, to American Indian communities.
  • Contribute to the identification and creation of internal practices to enhance community engaged research, clinical, and outreach efforts of Huntsman Cancer Institute.
  • Understand and translate Huntsman Cancer Institute’s mission, vision, and goals into community outreach and engagement programming.
  • Contribute to the development of the annual budget and justification, lead out on progress reports, and completion of all administrative documentation.
  • Manage and provide support for professional development of direct reports.
  • Work internally with administrative, clinical, research, and education staff to develop and implement evidence-based screening and prevention interventions including but not limited to, presentations, health events, webinars, social media, focus groups, study recruitment, etc.
