Job Summary
An audiologist with a AuD and/or PhD degree is sought to participate in an NIH‑funded study, designed to improve performance prediction in adult cochlear implant recipients.
Responsibilities- Carry out screening of cochlear implant patients, provide informed consent and testing in the operating room and clinic setting using electrocochleography, cognitive testing, and speech perception measures.
- Determine appropriate audiometric tests and assess hearing status.
- Counsel patients or families regarding audiometric test results, hearing loss, intervention, and rehabilitation.
- Recommend and coordinate referrals.
- Document hearing assessment results.
- Maintain and calibrate department equipment used for evaluation.
- Evaluate patient need for a hearing device; determine type of device.
- Fit, program and maintain hearing equipment.
- Perform sound level measurements of areas within the hospital and clinics when necessary.
- Lead in‑services or instruction for medical staff.
- Record and submit billing information for services and sales.
- Develop reports and maintain department program information.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
- Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
- Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
- Knowledge of evaluating and treating hearing disorders by determining appropriate testing and providing intervention techniques, hearing aids, aural habilitation, or rehabilitation.
- Ability to provide care as defined by licensure and refer to another health care professional when beyond the scope of training.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system; to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Current licensure in Audiology from the State of Utah.
- Additional experience and training or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) may be required in specialty areas.
