Overview
Join us in making a difference in the early detection of hearing loss in newborns as a Newborn Hearing Screen Technician. You will provide hearing screens in the hospital after a baby is born, working on-site at one or more hospital locations to screen newborns for hearing loss. Pediatrix offers on-the-job training, including annual certification accredited by the American Academy of Audiology.
This certification helps ensure employees are adept in improving early detection of hearing impairments and encouraging timely intervention. This is a Per Diem (very part time) position at St Mark s Hospital.
- Conduct newborn hearing screens
- Educate parents about the importance of the screen using video and printed tools provided
- Enter patient data and validate hearing screen results as needed
- Assist with confirming or rescheduling outpatient appointments
- Follow up on equipment issues and assist in training new staff
- Verify insurance information with parent/guardian
- Document hearing screen results accurately
- Submit billing information in a timely manner following established protocols
- Follow security and identification procedures for infants
- Adhere to infection control, safety policies, and other hospital, company, and program policies
- Recognize potential problems and obtain assistance when necessary
- Complete company and hospital orientation or classes, including patient privacy training
- Maintain employee health requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Experience
Experience Industry: Entry Level Healthcare
Minimum Qualification/Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Flexibility to work on weekends and national holidays required
Preferred Experience Years:
Entry Level. One to three months related experience
- Experience working with infants preferred
- Experience in a hospital setting preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer proficiency and ability to perform accurate data entry
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks and assignments
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work on weekends and national holidays required
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk frequently (about 95% of shift)
- Ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds frequently
