Overview
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our Ambulatory Clinical Care operation. The ambulatory group consists of 12 pediatric subspecialty divisions and service lines. This position provides patient care at the direction of a clinic manager and medical assistant supervisors. The CNA provides assistive care to patients;
facilitates the efficient delivery of patient care; supports the professional role of licensed staff and providers; offers support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to patients; and assists with scribing and clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. Positions are designed to provide growth and professional development opportunities, including promotions within a defined career ladder.
This position will be primarily located at Intermountain Riverton Hospital-Primary Children’s Wing, with potential shifts at Lehi Primary Children’s location. Training will take place at Primary Children’s Eccles Outpatient Services building in Salt Lake City.
This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. Regular and punctual attendance is required.

ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
Act as a medical scribe to assigned providers, including recording interactions, assisting with clerical duties related to medical documentation, filling out paperwork, and documenting notes in the electronic health records system. Work with a team to communicate professionally with patients.
Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures by recording vitals and basic information (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, height/weight) and collecting medical history information.
Educate and assist patients and families as delegated by the professional care provider.
Recognize and respond to emergency situations as directed.
Report observed patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff.
Perform CLIA Waived Lab tests as identified by department and report results appropriately.
Perform additional tasks such as EKGs and act as a chaperone during examinations; assist providers with procedures and treatments.
Monitor and clean examination rooms and equipment; restock supplies and report outages or needed repairs.
Under licensed staff direction, schedule appointments, procedures, and diagnostic tests; assist with routine clerical duties such as filing medical information and obtaining medical records.
Attend mandatory education on infection prevention and safety, CPR, equipment usage, and related procedures.
Assist with patient and family education by providing educational materials and health information.
Assist with transporting patients to ancillary departments or inpatient units as directed by licensed staff.
Care Coordination
Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments, tests, and treatments/procedures.
Maintain medical records and accurately document patient history, physical findings, and vital information.
Use computer applications efficiently in the office setting.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system, to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current certification as a Nursing Assistant with the State of Utah, or completion of first round of clinical and enrollment in an approved nursing education program, or successful completion of an RN program.
For nursing students, a three-month window after RN program completion to obtain an RN license; if RN license is not obtained, obtain a CNA certification. If already RN, must also hold CNA if remaining beyond three months.
Position is patient-sensitive and requires immunization per CDC standards and hospital policy, with limited exemptions for medical contraindications or religious beliefs.
